Guiding Questions
As America and the world, has seemingly come to realization that systematic racism is real and potent, the response has been expedient. CEOs are making statements condemning racism, corporations are donating millions of dollars to racial equity trainings and anti-racism activities. Companies are removing racist images from their product lines, oppressive symbols – such as confederate monuments, statues of historic slaveholders, and battle flags from the confederacy – are being torn down and removed from public site. Messages in support of the black community and against racism are being painted prominently on streets in large and small communities. Juneteenth – the day representative of the final emancipation of American slaves has been adopted as a quasi-official holiday. There is a concerted effort to buy from black-owned businesses, and “Black Lives Matter” has become the near universal rallying cry across America and the world – even in places where blacks are in short supply.
